Austrian gunmaker Glock took a tree-like approach to its line of pistols, with the original Glock 17 9mm pistol branching off from a trunk in each major caliber. The company typically launches a full-size Glock in a new caliber, then quickly follows up with compact, subcompact, and competition pistols to round out the caliber lineup.
Unlike other branches like the .45 ACP and .40 Smith & Wesson, the .380 ACP branch of the Glock family is the smallest of all branches and consists of a single pistol: the Glock 42. The .380 ACP cartridge was invented in 1908 by inventor John Moses Browning. Glock's .380 offering is also by far the lightest of the company's pistols. Weighing just 13.76 ounces, it's comparable to lightweight revolvers like the Ruger LCR. The next heavier pistol in the Glock line is the 9mm single-column Glock 43, which weighs 17 ounces unloaded. Despite being loaded with six .380 rounds, the Glock 42 is two ounces lighter than the Glock 43.
